Friday Favorites & Foodie PenPal Reveal (8-29)

Meet At The Barre

Why is this my favorite picture? I look awful in it - I'm sweating like a pig - my face is flushed - breathing heavy... But, it's my favorite because, I am comfortable enough to show it to the world. This is me - 5-6 days a week, starting at 5:30a. I run, I lift, I train - I push myself - I challenge myself. I am comfortable with who I am. I'm not gorgeous - But, I am STRONG.

This was the meal I had yesterday, after the quick run during my lunch break. It was PERFECT.
It is a kale/mixed green salad, with spicy red peppers, red onion, 1/2 an avocado, cherry tomatoes and 2 Tbsp of Chipotle Ranch Yogurt Dressing (that I found at Wal*Hell). I paired it with a RED RIPE APPLE and a huge bottle of water. I almost licked the bowl.

This morning. My favorite moment of the week was THIS morning. I ran 3.08 miles. And I thought I had made my 22.5 mile challenge. I came upstairs, and started figuring out the numbers. I realized... that on Tuesday... I did not run 5.62 miles... I ran 5.68 miles.. SO, I added everything together and realized something:

Monday - 5.46 miles (55 minutes)
Tuesday - 5.68 miles (55 minutes)
Wednesday - 5.14 miles (55 minutes)
Thursday - 3.24 miles (30 minutes)
Friday - 3.08 miles (28 minutes 08 seconds)
TOTAL MILES RAN: 22.6 miles
TOTAL # of RUNS - 5
TOTAL TIME - 3 hours 43 minutes 07 seconds
AVERAGE PACE - 9 min 52 sec/miles

When I realized this - I almost levitated out of my seat. Not only did I do it - but, I did an extra tenth of a mile - my legs do not hurt at ALL. I feel amazing - I feel so accomplished. I know I am capable of great things - and I feel - so fricking EMPOWERED.
My favorite workout this week, was definitely my lunchtime run, yesterday. It felt so good to go downstairs into the EMPTY workout room - and bust out 3+ miles.... and just go back to work. Walking through the cafeteria - to grab more water - I see people noticing me, and my workout bag on my shoulder - so, I may have strutted... just a little.

Also this week is the Foodie Pen Pal Reveal Day!

FPP post Foodie Penpals

This has to be one of the coolest ideas known to the blogging world. It combines 2 of the things I love... BLOGGING and FOOD. Plus, you get actually MAIL (instead of those dreaded bills and far worse advertisement yada yadas).

I discovered this fantasmogorical program while reading Pretty Little Grub and I was UTTERLY intrigued!

So, what did I do? Well, I signed up, of course - July was awesome, I had so much fun - so I decided to sign up AGAIN!

This is put on by the Lean Green Bean and here is how it works:
  1. On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
  2. You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
  3. The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treatsThe spending limit is $15The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
  4. You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
  5. Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
  6. Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & European residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!
This month I was paired with a woman named Mary - and she was from Maine.

She sent my some pretty amazing things - Black Rice (from Lotus Foods), Organic Peanut butter cracker snack packs, Yogurt Covered Raisins, a Go Apple Banana Squeezer, A spicy beef stick, 2 kinds of protein bars (KIND & Kashi) and a really awesome dark cacao salted caramel chocolate bar.
My favorite thing, thus far, has to be the Black Rice. I prepared a large amount of it last night, to put into our weekly meals. It had this amazing smell while it was cooking, and the color is purple, so really, how could I NOT love it? (I'm purple obsessed) The texture and the flavor were spot on too. OH - and I seasoned it with the Rice Seasoning, I had received during the JULY Foodie Pen pal!
Emry stole the Apple Banana Squeezer - and he said it was YUMMMMMM.
I have had HALF of the chocolate bar - and I've been really HOLDING BACK. It is smooth, and slightly bitter, with just enough sweetness. I LOVE DARK CHOCOLATE.
I've eaten both of the protein bars - the Kashi Bar was Mocha Almond Flavor, and the Kind bar was Dark Chocolate Sea Salt - Both were yummy - Sometimes I wish Kashi bars were slightly more, heavy? They don't stay with me long, and I always want another when I have just finished. **SIGHS** Too tasty.
Yogurt Covered Raisins are a go to snack for the house, we always have a bunch - so - LOVE THEM.
I haven't had the beef stick yet, but I sure plan on - perhaps I'll bring it with me to faire this weekend. Protein and yum and MEAT - DEAL. I think the flavor is Chipotle - I don't quite remember. I'm an awful blogger! (Mary, if you're reading this, FORGIVE ME!)
And the peanut butter crackers were really tasty! And I loved that I could read and knew all of them ingredients.
If you haven't - go over to the Lean Green Bean - and join in for September's Food Pen Pal Link Up. You will NOT be disappointed!!!!
Happy Friday Everyone!

Tabata Thursday + Lunchtime Run

Hello! Good Afternoon!

Work has been crazy so this was the first time I had to sit down and actually WRITE this post.

This week has been an interesting one - to say the least - let me tell you about last night's DEBACLE.

I leave work - normal
I pick up Emry - normal
I have to drive home and free a goldfish from a plastic jail into a tiny glass bowl - NOT NORMAL
(It was carnival day at camp - they all got GOLDFISH - JOY!!! *SARCASM* But cute, very cute)
We drive to karate - normal
I drive to the grocery store - normal
My wallet isn't in my purse - not normal - not cool - freaking out
My wallet was here, at work, in my desk. I had left it here, because I was preoccupied (Read: a complete and utter moron), and forgot to put it in my purse after balancing my checkbook.

SO what do I do? I go home, and I get Klay's debit card - done - easy - Let's move on to the list.

Do round 1 of grocery shopping - normal
Debit card doesn't go through - NOT NORMAL.

I used his debit as a credit - because I don't know his pin - and it wouldn't work - it was being declined. The bank had no way to help me - because, technically, it's not my card - even if it is a joint account. **SIGHS**

Drive home, without groceries, and find emergency cash stash - not normal, but not awful
Drive back to store, pay with cash - not normal, but got round 1 of groceries.
Drive home - NOT NORMAL

It was 9pm by this point, and I couldn't bare to go to another Wal*Hell and get the rest of my list. I'll do it tonight - I was SPENT.

Klay is calling to see what was up with his card - my wallet was exactly where I left it - Just oober stressful.

SO, I wake up this morning - exhausted - but, it's Tabata day - so that's a good day.
And since the YMCA was doing work on the locker rooms - only 6 people showed up for class -
SO awesome.

As of right now, I can't tell you all of the exercises - but - I'll tell you my favorite round.

It was called the "MAN HATER"
And what is that?

Non-stop circuit of the following:

Suicide from one side of the room to the other
Pick up 15lb dumbells
Do a Burpee
Do 2 pushups
2 (pushup positioned) back rows
Stand up - 1 overhead press

It was epic.
I loved it.
I wish I could have done it ALL DAY.

I came home, and I got changed for work - quickly through a salad together for lunch - and got Emry to camp.. then myself to work.

This morning was filled with reports - and editting - and double checking figures -

But lunchtime - well - lunchtime was filled with RUNNING.

I did a quick lunch run - 30 minutes
I squashed 3.24 miles in the process

Total Runs for the week = 4
Total Mileage = 19.46
Mileage Remaining = 3.04

Did you read that? 3.04 miles remaining until I hit my goal of 22.5 miles.
I can do that in less then 30 minutes tomorrow morning.

Come on - DANCE WITH ME.

The pain in my legs/hips/glutes - is gone, by the way...
I think the Tabata really got me all warmed up and loosened.

And here's a big HOORAY for TODAY!

How was your day?
Momming it up?
What healthy activity did you do today?

Be well my friends!

Get over the Hump with a Blog Hop & Confessions! (8-27)

Liz @ Fitness BlondieToday, is Wednesday and you all know what that means! It means that it's Hump Day, and the "Hump Day Blog Hop". This is hosted by Fitness Blondie, an amazing and positive blog I stalk follow. I found a bunch of great new blogs to read, and a lot of new positive bloggers! I have been doing this for a while now and each week, the new bloggers I follow become like new friends... We are a support system of awesome sauce... Are we not?
Go check it out.. and Join in!
Vodka and Soda
I also, ususally link up with Vodka and Soda... I found her through the Hump Day Blog Hop over at the Fitness Blondie! However, the websense at my job has dictated her BANNED, and the reason being SEX. So, I add my link to her blog via my phone... I'm sneaky like that! Vodka and Soda was an instant "I MUST ADD THIS BLOG TO MY FEED"... I recommend you heading over and linking up with her too.. as long as your work firewall allows you too (stupid job).
So without further ado...

MY CONFESSIONS am 6.28 miles away from completing my personal Running Challenge. Today, I jogged, and managed to do 5.14 miles in 55 minutes. I wanted to go farther, I wanted to push it like I did the day before. My muscles - not so much - Have you ever heard your muscles curse at you - I have - And it happened this morning. my bridesmaids are starting to get into the spirit of wanting to get things done for the wedding. But, not going to lie, I've just about hit my wall - and don't want to craft another single thing. I just really want it all to be done. more, if Lissa gives me - OH YOU COULD DO THIS - I'm going to stab her with a pen. I have no more money to allocate to the extra wedding areas. I just don't HAVE it. Sorry, not sorry - you want me to do this? You do it, and you pay for it. I'm just really DONE. Crafting Wall Hit. - "Just bring the stuff over to my house, and we can do it together!" I'm sorry, you mean that after the hoopla of my ENTIRE day (Normally a 16 hour day), you want me to pack up my crafting supplies - for MY wedding - and DRIVE OVER TO YOUR HOUSE? To do GOD knows how man hours of work - and then pack it up and DRIVE HOME? PFFFFFFT. You know, after I cook my son dinner, put him to bed, and eat something myself? You have no children - you have a busy schedule, yes - but - how about consideration for the woman who wears 3 MILLION HATS. How about this - and this is the bridezilla coming out (because she's getting tired of ME having to fit into EVERYONE ELSES WORLDS) - I'm the fucking bride - not you - I need help - COME TO ME - HELP ME - don't help me in a way CONVENIENT for YOU. forgot to eat yesterday. I know - cardinal sin of a healthy lifestyle - I have shiny ball syndrome with my new phone - and during lunch I went and bought a case for it - and then I played with it - and forgot to eat my lunch - THEN - I worked like nuts until I left - and then there was karate - and then I went bridesmaid dress shopping with Rosalie - and then I got home and it was 7:45p and I had to do all the prep work for the next day. Just forgot. (I did eat this morning - and plan to eat REGULAR meals).

I forgot my vitamins at home - which is weird, because I know I packed them - where they went, I don't know - I'm sure they are on the counter in the kitchen - or in with the vitamins - Blonde moment.
Due to the increase in running this week - I've noticed that I walk normal when others are walking with me or at me or by me - but the second I am sure that no one is around - I waddle - like I've been on a horse for too long. I'm sore - and stretching is only doing so much.

I confess - that I want to just STOP doing everything - and see what happens.

I confess - that I will never let that happen - I fear failing in life.... I fear the falling of all the balls in the air. father and friends basically have told me I am nuts for trying to run this much in a week. I've heard "You don't have to do that." "You don't need to work towards 1/2 marathons" "There is no running police enforcing a quota" "You need to take care of your body".... Here are my answers: I do have to do that, because I made a commitment to myself to CHALLENGE myself regularly. I do not NEED to work towards 1/2 marathons - I WANT TO... and Healthy Goals are important. I am the damn running police. Seriously, either my father (and friends) thought this running thing was a FAD or that I would never push myself farther than a 5k.... I want more - I like goals - I like pushing myself - I need to push myself more in healthy ways - to combat stress and fears - then eating and sulking and stressing about them. I don't think I'm wrong.
I confess - I've read a lot of things about a FOAM ROLLER - and have no idea what it is. I could google it - but, you know, haven't gotten around to it. *SIGHS*

I've been telling Emry that I am going to look up things he has questions about - and I keep putting it off - the list is getting SUPER long. I should get on that.

We are 1 month and 9 days from the wedding day - and I'm starting to get scared.

What are your confessions?
Happy Wednesday!

Tuesday - Who doesn't like donuts?

Ok - so last night we took Emry to soccer practice, and I thought I would be a nice soccer mom, and buy sustenance for everyone.

My first instinct was fruit - But, then, I ran out of time.
My second instinct was Coffee, Donuts/Munchkins - However, it was really HOT (where did the 90 degree temps come from? Come on Mother Nature - A little a little consistency, please?) so I opted for a small box of munchkins and 6 donuts.

I figured the kids would like the munchkins - and 6 donuts could be split between some adults.
And, so, I bring them - I present them, say, "Anyone like a snack?"
All I heard were crickets - and - a few "I'm on a diet" - and the dad's clearly wanted ones - but, just didn't take.

I'm sorry - since when have donuts become the enemy?

Playing Goalie - He's so cute
Yes, Yes, I know - I'm on a healthy journey too - and I do stray away from the sweets - but, on a whole - donuts are accepted! One munchkin... half a donut - not going to kill me.

So, Klay and I had a donut - and a couple of munchkins and watched Emry play soccer

But, seriously - Who doesn't like donuts?

Ugh - I should have just not gotten anything - or figured out a way to get fruit.
Just tried to do a nice thing, you know what I mean?

So - practice came and went - I helped out a little during - and then, I drove home.

Klay had picked up Emry again - so I was able to just drive solo.
This chick sold us our phones.
She also thought I was her age -
23 years old - Isn't she sweet?
No let me drain your youth.

I met up with my dad, and we went to the Verizon store - because it was National New Phone Day. Well, not NATIONAL new phone day - but, for me it was.

I ended up with a Galaxy Note 3 - and, not going to lie - still figuring it out. It comes with a cool stylus - and has a bunch of neat features - but, there are some new - idiosyncrasies that are going to take time to figure out.

For instance - with my old phone - if you connected it to your computer, it showed up as a DRIVE - it was something that I could drag and drop photos from - yada yada - Not with this one. I have to select and copy - and upload - one at a time.

UGH - right? UGH.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, and I'll figure it out - but, jeez - Not understanding no fangled technology - means I'm getting OLD. of OLD - I'm finding DEEP wrinkles on my face - DUDE, BODY, I know we are almost 30 - but, can I have the skin of a 20 something UP UNTIL THE WEDDING DAY?

So, this is a total rambling post, and I'm sorry - but, I've never had so much to discuss on a Tuesday - and I just LOVE it!

How are things going with my running challenge for this week?

Today I ran 5.62 miles in 55 minutes
Let me show you the breakdown - I broke my run up into intervals - allowing my body to recover as needed.

8 minutes 45 seconds @ 7.0 mph followed by 5 minutes and 15 seconds @ 4.5 mph
I did this 3 times (4.20 miles in 42 minutes)
4 minutes @ 7.0 mph followed by 1 minute @ 4.5 mph
I did this 2 times (1.07 miles in 10 minutes)
3 minutes @ 7.0mph
(.35 miles)
Average Pace: 9:47min/miles

SIDE NOTE: Taking pictures with the new phone - easy and awesome - however, when I took a picture of my ending stats for this run - I had this STAMP image pop up, and took a picture of me taking a picture - I edited out of the instagram shot - but, let me tell you - super funny... And totally not showing you it. HAHAHAHAHA!

This brings me to a weekly total of: 11.08 miles
I have 11.42 miles to go to reach my goal.
I think if I can run 2-3 more days - I will achieve this goal.
I can definitely do a majority of it in 2 - but, I might need a little extra sprint to make up the difference.

Any advice? - Any of my running bloggers have a few tips?

Well, now I'm here - at work, and all I want to do is play with my new phone - that keeps flashing BLUE at me - it must mean I have a message. I'm so used to my phone vibrating to tell me about notifications.

I'm going to take my lunch break - and run over to the mall, and buy a case for this bad boy - something that will protect it... you know, from me.

SIGHS - let me get to it - Here I come WORK!

Happy Tuesday Friends!

Monday Recap - and this weeks challenge

So this weekend - was just a whirlwind - We had two days of volunteering (to make up for missing the weekend prior) And, to be honest, that took up MOST of our weekend.

So let's get started - shall we?

I got up early, and I banged out a day's worth of the "Ab & Squat" Challenge - I have officially caught up - and oh boy, are my legs feeling it!

I helped Emry and Klay get out the door - they went to volunteer on TIME. I had to be a TEENSY bit late. Why is that? I had my final wedding trim. Over the past 9 months or so, I have been going every 6-8 weeks for a trim, to keep my locks Happy and Healthy. I know this is a normal thing, that women are supposed to do, but - to be perfectly honest - don't. Now that's not to say, that my hair doesn't get trimmed regularly. The truth of the matter is, Klay trims my hair, just the ends - and I do his. But, since I want look extra FANCY for the BIG DAY - I opted to get some regular maintenance.

The girl that does my hair is awesome, I showed up a little (read: 30 minutes) early for my appointment, because I needed to get to faire as soon as I could. And she squeezed me in early. Isn't that awesome? The best part is - she took one look at my hair, said, all it needs is a dry trim - because it's really looking good.... and I was on my way in 10 minutes. She'll be doing my hair the day of, and I couldn't be happier with her!

I went to the Salon in my Ren Faire attire, which got a lot of stares - but, at least I'm promoting the place I love! Hehehe - I have no shame!

I managed to get to faire, only 30 minutes later than opening - and walked right into the volunteering. It's all about the act - It's all about making sure the veil isn't lifted for the patrons. And that's what we help to do. We aren't a family of actors by any means - but we do a good job at enhancing the other paid actors at the faire.

It was a hot and humid day - the sun barely shown, but when it did - It was TORTUOUS. Absolutely TORTUOUS.
Sort of what it looks like
We did all of our work, managed to see a new belly dancing show - and basically went home.... OH, but that wasn't before I had a "Hot Beef Sundae"... What is that? OH MAN - It was my BIG MEAL of the day. It is a LARGE CUP filled with baked beans, coleslaw, BBQ Pulled Beef Brisket, and topped with a Cherry tomato. It is heaven in a cup - and I completely dogged it down - the only other thing I had to eat all day was a protein bar, and I WAS FAMISHED.

We went home - I watched the Book Thief on HBO. Ate some Panera for dinner (Chicken Hummus Bowl - I'll say no more.. yes I will.. I'll say: YUM).... And fell asleep.

I woke up early again - with all the intentions of repeating the morning before - Ab & Squat - I was tired, so I opted to do it later on that evening. I got dressed, got myself in my corset - and then took ONE LOOK at my hair. It was CRAZY! Like "OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR HEAD" I threw a head scarf over the madness - and we all got ready for another LONG (and rewarding) day at the NYRF.

We got their early enough - that I was able to get my hair braided. Because my hair was a JOKE.
It was awful. (Not going to lie - I'm still rocking them today. They look pretty - and honestly - I don't care if I look like I'm 10 years old... I put some gel in this morning - and that was it. Easy Peasy Wins EVERY TIME.)

Sunday was a rough day overall - the humidity had subsided - but made way for a clear and SUNNY day - Without moderate cloud cover - the open area of the Ren Faire is BRUTAL. People were in a great move - we interacted with a lot of great patrons - and had an amazing time with the cast. We did our normal opening gate Meet and Greet - and then we sold flags at the first Joust event. (I saw someone taking pictures of us - both days - I'm hoping I'll see them pop up on the FB.. maybe?!?!) We did a lot of helping with directions - and stopping children from driving their parents batty... It was a total of 5 hours of volunteer work - It never ended. As we were getting ready to go, the guild director's husband stops me. Asked us if we could stay another 2 HOURS - to do the final joust. Mind you - it was 440p when he asked me - and the last joust was at 640p - and takes an hour of volunteer work to do - so we would have gotten into our car (MAYBE) by 8p.. on a SUNDAY - when I have my REAL PERSON job the next day - with a 7 year old.

I think a lot of the times, people often forget how hard it is to volunteer with your child - even though he is SUPER helpful and in to it.. there is only SO MUCH you can ask of us. Plus, after a certain time - Emry is DONE.. He's 7 years old - and he gets TIRED just like the rest of us - but when he does, he just drops. It's as if he uses every ounce of energy and then needs to be plugged in to the wall.

I had to decline - and I spouted the reasons above - and I got "Well, I didn't realize you all went to bed so early". Dude, not the point. And we're not the only members of the guild - call someone in - or maybe, instead of passive aggressive posts or comments about needing more help - you actually CALL OUT the people who aren't pulling their weight. Just saying. Sorry not Sorry.

We went home, and I had chinese food. I mean Chinese Chicken Curry with Vegetable Lo-Mein. And it was AMAZING - just exactly what I needed after a long day of volunteering. Emry had shrimp and cherry tomatoes - he's  a weird kid sometimes - and I vegged out to AWFUL TV.  Falling asleep in front of it - and being woken up to move to bed later on.

OH, and I may have bought Klay a kilt - hehehehe.

Today was the day I got back into running. If you remember, I took ALL of last week off. Not a mile was run - not a pavement was pounding - not a treadmill was abused.

This week, my goal is to do 22.5 miles (or really anywhere from the 20-25 mile range)...

This morning I accomplished 5.46 miles in 55 minutes. I did some walking in there. Let me show you the breakdown of what I did.

At 27 minutes 06 seconds I reached 3.11 miles
(8 minute 44 second miles)
At 39 minutes 19 seconds I reached 4 miles
(9 minute minute 49 second miles)
At 48 minutes 47 seconds I reached 5 miles
(9 minute 45 second miles)
At 55 minutes 01 second I reached 5.46 mile
(10 minute 04 second miles)

I'm total pleased with this. The first day back, after not running for 7 days - was awesome.
I was really proud of my first 5 miles. And after that - crazy walking was NECESSARY.
I mean, I have the rest of the week to do 17.04 miles - Had to think about the LONG run (figuratively and literally).

And now, I'm here - at work - praying for the week to already be over.

Why is that?
Well, in mom land - we call this the LAST WEEK OF SUMMER VACATION - And I'm so ready to have my LIFE back.

That's kind of a harsh way to say that.
But the past 8 weeks have been filled - and the day in and day out - a little extreme.

Monday through Friday - I am up at 445a, so I can get to the YMCA by 530a... I work out until 6:30a - get changed as fast as I can - and take Emry to camp (which is only SLIGHTLY on the way to work). I then GO to work - another 30 minutes in the car - And get there by 8a. I leave at 4p - after quasi working - and I get to Emry by 4:40p from there the days are different. There is karate 3x a week - now soccer - food shopping - errand running - Some days we get home around 6p other days it's closer to 8p - on grocery days - 9p... There is dinner to be done, books to read, preparation for the next days lunches - house tidying - laundry (never ending laundry) - exercise - wedding planning - YADA YADA YADA

I have been doing this for 8 weeks.
Klay helps around the house as much as he can.
Just taking the camp chauffering out of the mix - will make life a LOT easier.
Can I get an AMEN?
So here's to the last week of summer.
The last week of the Ab & Squat Challenge
to the week of 22.5 miles

Friday Favorites

Today I'm linking up with Meet @ the Barre!

Favorite Picture of the Week

I'm starting to see so much definition in my back and shoulders. I need a better camera phone (hopefully getting one today - mine is two years old, and ready to go out to greener pastures) but, I had do document my WOW moment of the week!

Favorite Meal

Last night we went out to eat. I know, SCANDALOUS! What you are looking at are called IRISH NACHOS. It is a layer of crispy thick cut fries, followed be a layer of awesome shepherd's pie filling, topped with Irish Porter Cheese. It is Carb & Meat & Cheese Filled - it is unhealthy - IT IS AWESOME. And I've been day dreaming about it for weeks and weeks and weeks. We went to this great restaurant by us, for their Family Feud Game Night. Emry's really been wanting to go. It was a great meal, and a great atmosphere. We have to finish the summer out strong, right?

Favorite Moment

Watching Emry play soccer was definitely the highlight of my week (yes, it tops the Irish nachos). It was such a relaxing moment of watching him have fun & really excel. I cannot wait for next Monday!

Favorite Workout

My favorite workout was this morning - on rest day - Yup, I did about 30 minutes of ab/squat work this morning. I finally caught up on the Ab & Squat Challenge. Yesterday, I told you I was three days behind. Well - I conquered those three workouts this morning. Like a dagnab BEAST. This translated out to:

 190 Sit Ups
45 Regular Crunches
50 Long Arm Crunches
55 Crunch Twists
240 Squats

Now, I'm not going to lie - I am in a tremendous amount of pain right now - My legs are SORE, and walking isn't fun. My abs are still contracting (3.5 hours later). But I did it, and I caught up. When I fell so far behind, there was no other excuse, other than LAZY... so, I can't have that... And I refused to give up. I pushed forward, and made sure I got back on track. It's a life lesson - no?

Favorite Funnies!

It's why I have homeowner's insurance, right?
I should probably check my coverage for Spider caused Fire Damage

My name is Kat - and I think I have a problem.
(Oh by the way - follow me on Instagram - Yup, see what I did there?
Help me fuel my addiction. HAHA)

I almost fell over... *giggles*

This can't be a real picture - but, oh my goodness -

What are you Friday Favorites?
Any plans this weekend?

Be Well My Friends

It's Back Tabata Thursday! (8-21)

Last week I did not blog about my Tabata experience, mostly because I forgot my camera, and I usually document the stations with that. However, I still went last week.
So, I'm back at it... Let's break it down:
Tabata is my lover. It is the favorite part of my week.
I keep going back to see what we're doing! And it makes me just.. SO STINKING EXCITED.
All levels of Fitness Geek go to this class, and I love how we all inspire each other to keep going!
Once again Tabta is a HIIT class (High Intensity Interval Training). Participants go through 7 different stations, 2 exercises per station. Each exercise is 20 seconds long, with 10 second breaks. Each station gets 4 repetitions of the 2 exercises. It's about 4 minutes for each station, and then you get a 2 minute break between stations.

Station 1: Ropes
Torso Slam
Burpee Slam

Station 2: TRX
Side Plank

Station 3: Barbell
1 leg deadlift

Station 4: Slush Pipe
1/2 get up w/ Twist
Toe to Bar

Station 5: The Bar
Pull up progression
Mountain Climb Push Up

Station 6: Dumbbell
Goblet Squat + Squat Jump
Lunge w/ Chop

Station 7: Continuous Death
Zig Zag Run w/ Bear Crawl

And that was the day!

Each workout begins with a decent warm up, to get us amped and ready... and ends with a very relaxing (and stretch filled) cool down.

My favorite station of the day was:
Station #4 - Slush pipe.
I find that these particular combination of slush pipe activities really tighten and tone my core.
Want to make one yourself? Go to your Home Depot or Lowe's and Find a HUGE PVC Pipe, and get some end caps for it. Before closing it off completely... fill it with sand. How much? Well - how much gives you a decent challenge? 20lbs? 30? 40? Here's the deal. Weigh the pipe, and end caps.. then.. fill it with sand to meet your "challenge" zone. Make sure you glue the end caps on with a poxy.. or else, I'm pretty sure they'll just fall off!
(Do I have one? No. But - I'm going to make one this weekend!)

My least favorite station of the day was:
Station #3 - Barbell
The 1 leg deadlift is what really got me discouraged. It showed me how much my core strength is impacted by more poor balance. I just couldn't find my balance. Very frustrating.

What did you do to be active today?
OH... Find me on Instagram @ KatVonSteal

(I've been trying to add a badge, underneath my film strip - but, instagram is being a tool and I feel like screaming at it... Can anyone email me the code?)

Happy Thursday!
