Friday Fives (12-19)

Good morning, Happy Friday -  Christmas is next week - - NEXT WEEK - -  I mean, how did that happen? I can't even!!! And yesterday, work was a mess - - no post, because I didn't have a computer ALL DAY.... But, it resulted in a FAVORITE THING! I'm linking up today with - -

Let's jump right into it - - my 5 Favorites of the Week!

1) This week I received NEW OFFICE FURNITURE. This is the reason why I had no computer all day yesterday... But, it resulted in a very nice - - beautiful set of furniture. And for the first time in the three years I have been in this position, my office actually looks - - - professional. I can't seem to find the words to explain how happy this makes me.

2) Last night, was Klay's birthday, and we went out with his parents to the Newburgh Brewery, and I had the best Cream Ale I have EVER had. It was smooth, and had no weird bitter aftertaste... And because that cream ale was SO good, I had a BUCKET of mussels that were marinated and prepared in the same beer. I paired this with Spicy Chile-Lime french fries, and ate every single bite. It was just that good. Being able to sit down and watch a show without falling asleep or being interrupted. I was able to watch the season finale of Ink Master - - from beginning to end. And, I'm not going to lie, I ate dinner in front of the television. I had a huge salad and some left over naan - and just vegged out while watching the finale. It was utterly relaxing.

4) Finding my motivation. I did it, I signed up for a Half Marathon. I begin using the Hanson's training method on Monday - - - and thus, I will begin an 18 week journey to run a half marathon. I mean, 13.1 miles - - that's pretty epic. My goal is to maintain a steady 10:00 min/mile and come through at 2 hours 12 minutes.  I know that's a very ambitious goal - - but, I am confident, and I am dedicated - - Let's get this thing going!!! Warmer weather has graced our region this week. Each day has been well over 40 degrees, and that makes me so happy. The frigid temperatures are only nice if they accompanied with pretty snowflakes... Am I right? So, being able to walk out of my office, without a coat - - and dash to my car (which is only 50 feet away) is wonderful.

I am still unpacking some of my office - - so I don't have any funnies to share! Have a wonderful weekend!

#HashtagHumpday (12-17)

It's time for the #HASHTAGHUMPDAY LINKUP!!!!!!!! Lauren and Laura are going into their fourth week of #HashtagHumpDay !!!!! The rules are so simple and let's put it this way: #gottoloveit

#Hashtaghumpday @ Genuinely Lauren
I use this day for confessions, and maybe even a couple of rants...
So here we go #areyoureadyforthis never got back on track - - - - And honestly, I really didn't put forth good effort #lazybum . The truth of the matter is, I just have lost the zest I had for running and working out, and that makes me depressed. My clothes are getting pretty tight, and I know (seriously, I know) that I need to get back on track. But, finding that is really hard. #thestruggleisreal SO, I was reading that Heather was doing the Hansons Method to prepare for her half marathon. And I started doing a little "Running Research" - - - The schedule for the half marathon seems intense, but, I remember at my peak I was able to get close to most of these long runs.... SO, I'm going to do it. Starting Monday, I am training for my very first HALF MARATHON. I am going to pay for the race today, and then start training for it. If I pay for something, I will OD on preparing for it - - - because 1) I am an over achiever and 2) I do not give my money away and not commit to where it has gone #notsayingimcheapbutimcheap #herewego I write this, there are many bagels (from Panera) outside my door - - - along with not getting back on track - - - my food has been OUT of control. I have been eating whatever I want, whenever I want. My weight is crazy right now, I refuse to weigh myself - - REFUSE. All I know, is come Monday - Epic changes - Back to who I am - - not who I was. #Iwillfightmywayback have begun receiving my last minute Christmas Presents and I received Klay's birthday present last night! #lastminutenelly Okay, - - - I guess you have your shit together. But, I still have 4 books floating around somewhere and a CD - - - Let's get moving on this! #uspsatitsfinest #slowlikemolasses, I have never been really GREAT at wrapping Christmas presents - - I mean, I make it work, however, if present wrapping was a pro sport, my husband would be Captain of the team. This is also why, I believe, he is a better baker than I am... he is patient and finds his zen when doing things like this. He makes all other wrapped presents in the house look like they were wrapped by cats. #catscantwrappresents
My new office furniture comes in tomorrow and currently, I have 9 totes filled with all of my office crap - - - - So, tomorrow, all I plan on doing is watching the furniture be installed and walking around like a own the joint. #likeaboss #sofancy

That's all I got today - What's new with you?

12. Four things I am always saying
  • "The Struggle is Real" - I've been saying that a lot recently, and it has been true each time it has been used.
  • "Just saying" - Usually when I'm trying to make a point.
  • "What had happened was..." - when I'm trying to explain something (justify it) to Klay
  • "Sit down on your butt, not your legs" - To my son, who never officially sits in a chair
This was SO much fun, thank you Heather for tagging me!!!!
Now it's my turn - -- Who do I tag? - - Who do I tag?

Happy Tuesday!!!

Weekend Recap (12-15)

Well - Can you believe it's Monday the 15th? That Christmas Morning is 10 - - - TEN - - - days away. I mean, seriously, this month just keeps flying and flying and flying. But, now is not the time to focus on the Yule Tide Speed Race - but to recap the weekend. I hope yours was WONDERFUL! Let's begin - Shall we?

Friday night - Was the end of our busy week at TKD/HPK. It was the dojang's annual Christmas Party. There were games for the kids, and music (thanks to me and the fact that I have more Kidz Bop music than ACTUAL music at the moment) - and everyone made SUCH delicious food. For the first time in months, my friend Ro and I were able to sit down and actually spend time together. Between her daughters very ACTIVE schedule, and our schedule - - - we never have time to sit and chat. Silly Kids - taking away our social lives. The coat drive was an epic success - we overfilled my trunk with such generous donations. We were there all night - and when we got home (way after 10p) all of us basically hit the pillow.

Saturday - Saturday was a very VERY intense day. I had to pack all of the chores and to-do's missed because of the hectic week into this weekend. So, I woke up, ate a little something something, and then it was time to finish decorating our tree. I love to take out the ornaments and just look at them. Remember when I got them - or who they originally belonged too. It was such a nice couple of hours.  Then got my butt to the grocery store. Let me tell you, I hate going grocery shopping on the weekends, our stores are always packed, and it takes me 3 hours to do something that normally takes me a little over an hour. **SIGHS** I got through the grocery shopping as quickly as I could.
And when I got home, it was time to unpack the bags - and quickly drive to our favorite Christmas ornaments shop. Every year we take our time, look at each ornament, and at their epic train w/ village set up. Our pics this year were totally predictable (at least for Emry and I).... We walked around the attached shop - - - looked at all the amazing items. They had different marinades and dips - - - old school toys - - beautiful jewelry and warm fuzzy coats, sweaters, socks, and hats. It took all of my restraint not to buy frivilous things... I mean - - - - how many arm warmers can one girl have??? (I don't think there is a limit, but that's just me).
Anyway - We got home and then it was time to flex my cooking muscles. We were really in the mood for a fantastic dinner... and I haven't cooked like this in a long time. Our menu consisted of Grilled Porterhouse Steaks, with marinated pan-fried shrimp. The shrimp were marinated in a Honey-Red Curry- Olive oil mixture, and they came out spectacular. I paired this with Southwestern Chicken Stuffed Potato Skins and Sauteed Green Beans. I can't even begin to tell you how amazing it tasted. And there were clean plates all around. YUMMMM!!!!! Saturday night was also the peak of the Geminids (aka: really cool meteor shower) - - but it was super cloudy, and we couldn't see a thing. BOO!
Klay and I opted to rent a horror movie, and watch "As Above, So Below" - -- up until the very end, we were on the edge of our seats. And it was shot in a way where you felt tense the entire time. The end was left to be desired, and I honestly found the end scene a tad confusing. But - - - you know, that's the breaks. We watched our movie with some Red Wine, Goat Cheese and Baked Mini Toast Crostinis. Such a nice relaxing evening.

Sunday - I woke up very early, and had to get my car in for it's monthly oil change. This happens just about every month since I commute about 45 minutes (one way) to work. We left my car there, and when I got home the chores started. I vacuumed the entire house, cleaned the bathroom and mopped the Kitchen and the Bathroom floors. Once that was done, I prepped the food for the week. This week, I made MONSTER meatballs (monster because of their size, not because of their filling - monster is out of season, duh!). I baked them until they had a nice crust on the outside, and then I placed them in the crock pot with my homemade sauce, and let it slow cook for 5 hours on low.  The house smelled like heaven.
Once I was done with getting the meatballs practically done, and in the crock pot, it was time to go pick up my car from the mechanic, and then drop off the coat drive items to the church. And, I plan to keep collecting warm weather stuff, and any items really. The assistant says they are in desperate need. And, I think that it is important to give back as much as possible. After I got back from the church - - - I was practically done, and so was Klay. He was finishing up the lights outside, and when I hit the driveway, he was just as done as I was. I started one of 4 loads of laundry, helped Emry weed through his old toys - So they could be donated or thrown out (depending on how used they were), and then.....
PEACE. We popped in the Polar Express dvd and then watched straight through to the National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. 4 hours on the couch... snacking, laughing - - I took a brief nap in the middle of the Polar Express (Shhhh)....While we were watching NL's Christmas Vacation - - - I realized we hadn't thought about dinner. Klay ordered wings from Buffalo Wild Wings - - - and we had a quick and tasty dinner. Klay attemped to look for the Geminids last night - with no success. And, I was in bed before 10p.

Overall - a normal, busy, but clearly not spectacular blog post, weekend.

Here I am today - at my desk - and I am so excited, because I have a full week - followed by a 9 day vacation from work. I couldn't be HAPPIER. I just need to get all of this work done.

Hence the late post.

What did you do this weekend?
Do you get a new ornament every year?
10 days - - - -Christmas - - - Thoughts? You're freaking out too right?

Friday Fives (12-12)

Good morning, Happy Friday - can you believe in less than 2 weeks that it will be Christmas Morning? I mean, how did that happen? So not ready... SO SO not ready.

Let's jump right into it - - my 5 Favorites of the Week! sweaters! I picked up this beautiful metallic sweater from F21 - and I am so excited to pair it with a great pair of jeans (or leggings) with tall boots...My favorite part of this sweater, is the little peek-a-boo in the back. It's classy, and adds a little bit of fun to a basic sweater. The picture doesn't really do the color justice - there is this gold shimmer throughout the entire sweater. And it is so very comfortable! I think if I go to Forever21 (or gosh any store) and pick up a couple select pieces here and there - I should have a pretty rocking wardrobe soon.... So excited! smell of wood burning! As I pull out in the morning and begin my commute, before I get close to the highway, there is always someone using their wood burning stove, and oh my goodness - - - it smells like Christmas to me. Just warm and comforting! Does anyone know what I mean? Or am I just totally crazy? Christmas being in full swing at work, I am truly happy about the laid back atmosphere in the office, it has helped to calm me. Especially with my head, and all that has been going on around me. A calm atmosphere is SO appreciated -- -- -- now, if I can only convince my boss that nap time is a work appropriate Christmas, after lunch, activity - - - That be great!

Even though it was tiring, a great part of my week has been our daily testing at the dojang. Tuesday, was adult TKD. Wednesday was Emry's TKD test and Thursday night was Klay and my HPK test. It was really great to be together as a family, and watch each other excel at something we all love. Let me just give you a couple of videos of both my and Emry's board break. Oh, did I mention that when I broke the board, and splintered it - - that I landed a pretty kick butt bruise on my foot. Battle scars are awesome. Highlight of the HPK test was the sparring - - - I took down two purple belts, and I am starting to really feel cemented and my muscle memory is totally coming back.

video a very selfish favorite of the week - Prescription medication - I have been on my prescription, for my awful headache for about 3 days now, and my head is feeling so much better. I even got past the nausea that day 2 brought. I don't feel stupid when I take it - - - and I can always up the dose if and when it stops working. Prescriptions are a wonderful thing. Just saying.

Hope you all have an amazing weekend!!!

Thursday Three - Yeah, I just made that up

Three Thoughts For This Thursday

How is it when tells you items will be received in 5-8 business days - and then you get your estimated delivery date, it's NOT 5-8 business days, more like 14 business days? I, last minute, ordered things, but I put them under express/rushed shipping.
Now, I'm viewing the estimated delivery dates, and there is one group of packages (coming from the same seller) that won't be in until December 31st? HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE????? That is totes magoates (yeah I went there) not 5-8 business days. They are getting a phone call. They are just extra presents that I had to get, because, when your kid tells you - "Hey, you think it's too late to ask Santa for these books?" and those books are Great Illustrated Classics - you make sure you GET THEM. DUHHHHHHHHHH.
Also, I am an awful wife, and I forgot (yes, I forgot this) that Klay's birthday is on the 18th - - - - I am an AWFUL wife. So - shit better get here and fast.

When you hear Ugly Christmas Sweaters are OPTIONAL - - - what do you do? Wear a Christmas Sweater OR just don't do it. I mean, help me out here - - - Isn't being goofy good for the soul? One can't be so serious and stick in the mud all the time. OH, and if you have opted to not wear an UCS, then don't tell me that mine is "too cute" to be considered an UCS... my light-up Christmas bulb earrings beg to differ. OH, and my Elf hat headband, would like a word outside. Just saying.  It's the whole package!!!! headache is officially gone, which means that the medicine is doing it's job - - - However, one of the side effects of this medication is insomnia, and nausea - - - and yup... I got both of those last night. I had this weird in-an-out sleep pattern, so I really don't feel rested, and my stomach does repeated flips. This should help today at the UGS party, since it is also a cookie swap. What did I bake? WELL - that's a tale for another post. Let's just say I epic FAILED a pinterest "easy" cookie recipe - and I'll show you pictures at a later date. I bought - and they look tasty enough - -- Just remember, the Baking Gods are fickle creatures - - - they do not like to be rushed. Or feel that you are rushing. That's a piece of sage wisdom for you.

So - those are my Three Thoughts for Thursday...

I now leave you with lots of GIFS and FUNNIES - to get you through the rest of your day.

If you cannot view the video from Youtube - look of Yanis Marshall "Spice Girls" Tribute.
You can thank me now AND later.

Happy Thursday!

#HashtagHumpday (12-10)

It's time for the #HASHTAGHUMPDAY LINKUP!!!!!!!! Lauren and Laura are going into their third week of #HashtagHumpDay !!!!! The rules are so simple and let's put it this way #gottoloveit

#Hashtaghumpday @ Genuinely Lauren
I use this day for confessions, and maybe even a couple of rants...
So here we go #areyoureadyforthis
This morning while commuting in to work, there was a dude driving in a convertible - - - with the top down. It was 32 degrees during my commute and it was snowing. I had to snap a picture while we were at a standstill. I couldn't. I just kept laughing. When I finally got to passing him, I see him in a Jester styled Greenbay Packers hat. He looked so cold. #cantmakethisup #commutingshenanigans've been doing the #inthedrawer instagram link up with Nadine and Jana, and the 9th prompt came with a snag. I was supposed to hide my elf on the couch - - - - My cats had other plans, late last night I heard *jingle jingle jingle jingle*, so I got up, and found them basically playing a tug of war with Carl (our elf). Sorry Carl, so so sorry. I put him on top of our entertainment center, looking at the couch. Cats can be SO bad sometimes. #ialmostkilledourelfontheshelf #icanteven #thisiswhyiamadogperson finally am having a headache free day. If you haven't been reading, I got a headache on Thursday, so bad, that it resulted in a trip to the doctor, then the emergency room, and in the future to a neurologist. My primary care finally called me in a prescription to take away the pain, and allow me to sleep. 5 days with a headache was no bueno. But, today, it is at least 75% on the mend - I can actually have the lights on in my office today. #yayforprescriptions #headachesarenofun #sleepismyfriend
Tomorrow we have our Ugly sweater and Cookie swap party at work. Catch is, I haven't baked anything. I know, I am awful - -- but between the headache, and life, I just haven't had the time. Considering going to Wal*Hell tonight and grabbing premade cookie dough. (But, I do have my ugly Christmas sweater and earrings ready to go!! #iknowitscheating #workingmomproblems #dontjudge
You ever have that moment when you just can't put on makeup? And everyone looks at you like "What is wrong?" "Are you okay". . . . No bitches (said with love, of course) this is how I look without make up. I know, I look like Quasimodo but, that's the breaks kid. #thisishowilook #dontrunawayscreaming #whatsupwiththetorches #makeupmakeseverythingbetter year, I consider giving Emry coal - - - not for all of his presents, but at least in one box - - - just to reinforce the, "It could happen". And every year I chicken out. I don't want to be that parent. #coalforchristmas #firstworldproblems that I have had a good nights sleep, I wish I could go in and erase yesterdays venting, exhaustion post. And thereby erase all of your memories. **SIGHS** Sleep does wonderful things, and stress plays tricks on you when you haven't slept. #imahotmess #stresssucks #sleepiswonderful
I think I have gotten the shopping bug, I spent a good number of years only shopping online, and never touching a mall or retail store. But, my little pilgrimages to our local mall for #Forever21 and #VictoriasSecret have been pseudo-theraputic and actually kind of fun. Especially since I go by myself. #metime #canyoubeaddictedtoshopping #retailtherapyisreal

Well, that's all I got today - Happy Wednesday!
